Garden room ideas for summer entertaining with David Salisbury

Garden room ideas for summer entertaining with David Salisbury

While it certainly felt that Summer had started earlier this year, coinciding with the gradual loosening of restrictions, it has meant many of us have been able to get outside and enjoy our gardens. The days have been getting longer, bringing increased natural light into our homes, and the sunshine has helped to give everyone a lift.

Of course, there is perhaps nothing more reliable than the unpredictability of the British weather(!), so if you’re looking ahead to a Summer of entertaining friends and family at home, you’ll need to ensure your home and garden is up to the task.

A garden room is the ideal solution, allowing you to combine elements of being both indoors and outdoors – the perfect compromise if the weather is not quite up to it. We’ve turned to our friends at David Salisbury once again, to ask them for a bit of garden room inspiration and expert advice for Summer.

Blending indoors & outside

David Salisbury garden room with bi fold doors

Bi-fold doors continue to be perhaps the most in-demand design feature of a new garden room or orangery. Being able to effortlessly move from inside to out and back is just one of many benefits – aside from adding value to your property, they will also make your living space feel bigger when fully retracted.

There’s something wonderfully characterful and evocative about oak, which has been used as a building material for hundreds of years. This garden room design shows off the timber, complementing the stone work of the existing property to look like it has always been there. An open plan style kitchen and living space is the perfect place to relax as a family or entertain friends.

Alfresco dining?

Everyone loves a bit of alfresco dining.  This orangery with French doors opens out onto the perfect outdoor dining area – with a dining table also laid up inside, you’re covered for every eventuality.

Perhaps breakfast indoors followed by lunch outside, when the temperatures are that much warmer, or evening drinks, now that we are allowed to mix with friends and family socially (within the allowed restrictions).

Filled with natural light

We’ve certainly had some days recently when the sun has been shining but a chilly wind has meant sitting outside for a drink or a meal was not quite comfortable. The ideal solution in these instances is a garden room, or orangery design like the one above.  Bi-fold doors open onto the garden whilst the generous roof light above floods the room with natural flight – creating a real sense of the outdoors from the comfort of inside your home.

Creating a sense of luxury

The beauty of modern garden rooms is that they are designed and built to be enjoyed all year round.  To ensure maximum use and enjoyment, be sure to consider your furniture and finishing touches carefully – after all, you’ll want to show off this new space to friends and family. Statement armchairs in a contemporary shade of grey are perfect for a morning cup of coffee, whilst taking in views of your garden.
