Inspiration behind the brand: chicmyroom

chicmyroom is an innovative and extremely stylish home furniture and furnishings business that has seen a massive boom in its online sales over the past 18 months. ufurnish.com Co-Founder and CEO, Deirdre McGettrick virtually sat down with chicmyroom’s e-commerce leader, Natasha Forker, to learn more about the inspiration behind the brand and business.

Q1.  Can you share with us where the inspiration for the chicmyroom business came from?

Our range on chicmyroom is quite unique and that’s really where the vision and ethos for the site originated. The home interiors and furniture offering in the UK at the moment is huge but we were finding lots of like for like products across many sites, so we wanted to hand pick what we believed to be some of the most exciting pieces and ranges and put them in one place. We don’t allow ourselves to be limited by fitting a particular aesthetic or style which I think allows us to cater for a wide audience but with a really rich catalogue of great pieces.  We buy with an open mind and often find our more left field ideas prove to be our most successful, so our catalogue grows with a really organic feel as a result of customer feedback and our aim to stay ahead of the latest interior trends.

Q2. chicmyroom offers such an amazing selection of furniture and furnishings from the home. What are some of the most popular pieces that you offer?

The Hollywood style mirrors and vanity units continue to be our most popular pieces on site. We introduced a kid’s model of the Hollywood vanity set last year and the response blew us away. A close second would be the Sheepskin range, which we love as even a small stool in this really distinctive fabric creates such a quirky statement in the home. Our customers obviously have a great sense of fun and we love them for it.

Q3. I personally love the Faux Sheepskin range of products that chicmyroom offers. Are you able to share with me your inspiration behind the style/ design?

The sheepskin range was born out of our ever-present desire to be different; we are constantly searching for new trends and products not currently seen in the UK market to offer our customers first pick of the styles we think will be big in the future. The sheepskin range was one of our more “out there” ideas at the time so it was a bit of a risk as it’s an acquired taste, but luckily for us our customers loved it as much as we do and it’s a trend we are seeing grow and grow. So much so we have recently launched the Yak Sheepskin range which offers all of the wow factor off the sheepskin range but with a more refined bouclé finish to the fabric. We like to think of the Yak range as the slightly older, more serious sister to the fun young sheepskin pieces, and already it’s proving to be a big hit.

Q4. chicmyroom’s furniture ranges are amazing and the offering is so extensive that it appeals to people of all different home interior persuasions. Where do you see the most demand for your product ranges and why?

Thanks this is great to hear as we do pride ourselves on offering something for almost everyone, and love that our site can’t be pigeon holed to one particular style of interiors. We do find the vast majority of our customers are young women, however that being said with current restrictions on bricks and mortar shops at the moment we are finding more and more of the older generation embracing online so our customer demographic has definitely widened over the last year which we really welcome. We are also really pleased that a lot of our customers are repeat customers which for us is a huge compliment and shows satisfaction and confidence in our brand.

Q5. You’re building up the chicmyroom brand and offering extensively at the moment. What can our ufurnish.com community expect to see from chicmyroom over the next 12 months?

Yes as I mentioned before we are constantly on the lookout for new products and trends not yet seen in the UK market so the “new” section of our site is always a good place to keep an eye on. Without giving too much away just yet we are currently working with the manufacturers of the Hollywood mirror range to further develop our mirror options with new technology and functionality that we are really excited about. After the success of our Modena sideboards, we have also extended this range to offer a full living collection which will be available for presale next month along with some brand-new furniture ranges in materials and finishes we think are going to be big in 2021.  
Aside from our catalogue we are constantly working to improve customer experience. We had a significant period of growth over the past 2 years and now have a chance to reflect on how we can make things easier for our customer in terms of navigating the site, product information and order tracking. We will be rolling out various projects throughout the year to make the customer journey on chicmyroom an enjoyable one with some great interior finds along the way.
