"Sculpture in Stone ""African Lady"

A small unique sculpture of an African lady's head incorporating the rough natural stone outcropping as her headscarf. The sculpture is carved from 'soapstone' I brought back from Zimbabwe. Soapstone is a Steatite rock a talc-schist - a type of metamorphic rock. Soapstone has been a medium for carving for thousands of years & is very soft (# 1 on Moh's scale) The scale of this piece was determined by the pieces of soapstone I picked up in Zimbabwe. It measures 4.1 ins high x 2.6 ins wide. It has a drilled 45 flush-hanging point in the rear, It would very look good in a 'shadow box' mount (not included). It has a high gloss finish on the face (dark grey) & part of the turban (Grey & brown outcropping) is left as I found it. This is a one-off piece - totally original & all my own work.
