Asparagus Floorcloth

I have done perhaps a dozen asparagus paintings but this by far is my largest. It measured out at a grand 7' x 10 1/2'. Working with the clients request 'we' came up with this design. An entire piece of the spears in a bunch did not proportion out right. We did half & half unbundled. I added the 2 undone rubber bands to balance the color. She liked the royal blue & it is hard to see except close up but she wanted, & got some pink in there as well. Layers & layers of color give it depth. I did something new here & outlined with charcoal first before adding the black background. It fuzzes out the hard lines a bit. I use this on my artichoke pieces & I will say I like smudging with my finger tips.I love tactile painting. The first pic is the teaser I sent her. I rarely send a snap of the entire piece as I like the element of surprise. This also drives me nuts waiting to hear back if the client liked it or not. I mean it drives me nuts! The second & third pics are hers. This is a dining room piece & it surely makes a statement. Art is meant to be fun & quirky. . .so have fun & get quirky.
