Each winter, I feed them in my garden & watch how small birds struggle when larger birds steal their food. This inspired me to create a collection of ceramic bird feeders designed especially for small birds like bluetits, common redstarts, & sparrows. This feeder is made from ceramic in the Raku technique, with a gray-green glaze & warm brown accents. The surface shows natural crackles & smoky effects created during the reduction firing. Each piece is handmade, hand-shaped without a potter's wheel, & signed. You will receive this feeder with a durable hanging cord. Dimensions: Height: 20 cm (7.9 in) Diameter: 9 cm (3.5 in) Weight: 358 g (0.79 lb) The feeder is made using the Japanese Raku technique. After shaping the clay by hand, I left it to dry, then fired it in a gas kiln. I glazed the piece with a custom glaze & fired it again at about 1000oC (1832oF). While still red-hot, I placed it in sawdust to create unique crackles & smoke patterns. After cooling, I cleaned it by hand. I use only lead-free, non-toxic glazes.
