About ten years ago a fellow wood turner got a lead on a downed walnut tree. We lumbered the tree ourselves & split the lumber between us. I use most of mine to build a four poster bed for my son's (Phil) wedding present. That is also the project where I got addicted to making flame finials. They can be done in several ways & every one has it's own unique qualities. It is labor intensive, but definitely the most rewarding project you can do in a wood shop.
