"Driftwood Sculpture ""Desert Dreaming"

The Desert Dreaming sculpture collection. Strolling along the southern shore of Lake Superior on a cool & windy afternoon, I came upon this small pile of sun-bleached driftwood. I was in a setting that, other than the sand, couldn't be more different than the deserts of the southwest, yet that's what what I thought of as I held these beautiful little pieces of driftwood. Each grouping is mounted on a basalt stone found on the same beach. The driftwood is intentionally unfinished, as the natural shapes, colors, & textures are superb as is. Like most people, I am drawn to the driftwood that lies scattered along the shore its natural abstract beauty & rich, unknowable history intrigues me. There is something almost magical about it. From seed to tree to a chunk of wave-tossed, sun-bleached wood at the end of its life & a mere fraction of its once grand size it is beauty transformed.
