A rare vintage blanket from the hill tribes of S.E Asia has been upcycled into this gorgeous throw pillow, perfect for adding a touch of hill tribe character to any room. This beautiful throw cushion is made up from a rare vintage hemp textile - individual thick strands of hemp plant dyed a variety of indigo shades before being woven by hand into a thick textured piece. A stunning example of hill tribe textile weaving with a rustic feel, backed with a softly textured cotton reverse. [ Details ] Front is traditionally handwoven & dyed hemp fabric. [ Notes ] The handmade nature of Hmong textiles means that they may have imperfections from the natural process of weaving, batik application & dying, often further adding to their character & uniqueness. Colors may differ ever so slightly to the pictures due to different viewing monitors / device displays. Fabric Care : Wash fabric in cold/lukewarm water, ideally by hand, & shade dry. Salting the water slightly helps prevent further dye loss. [ What is Indigo Dye? ] Indigo dye has been used for thousands of years by civilizations all over the world to dye fabric blue. As much as 1 tonne of leaves is needed to produce just 2kg of dye. Natural indigo is also a sustainable dye; after the pigment has been extracted the plant residue can be composted & used as a fertilizer & the water reused to irrigate crops.
