Irish Quilt, Claddaugh, Quilted Wall Hanging, Celtic Knot Legend has that a young Irishman by the name of Richard Joyce was kidnapped by pirates & sold to a Moorish goldsmith. During his long years spent in exile, Richard learned the skills of a master goldsmith. in 1689, King William III arranged for the return of the captured slaves, thus allowing Richard to go home to Galway, Ireland. He turned down an offer from his Moorish captor who offered not only his daughter's hand in marriage, but a large dowry of half his wealth. When Richard returned to Ireland, he presented a young women who had faithfully waited for him to return with the now famous Royal Claddagh Ring as a symbol of their enduring love. It is composed of two hands representing their friendship, the crown to signify loyalty & the heart to symbolize eternal love for each other. They married soon afterward, never to part again. This beautiful symbol of Love, Loyalty & Friendship can be proudly displayed on your wall. It is handmade from cotton fabrics. The green & black are solid, the background is a tone on tone white print, the gold has flecks of sparkle on the surface to give it a metallic look, & the red is a mottled batik. The hands are made from white satin. The appliques are fused to the background, then securely stitched with monofilament thread. The background is micro stipple quilted in white thread & the border has a swag quilted around it in matching green thread. The batting is low loft poly blend & the backing is white muslin. The binding is solid black & is first machine quilted to the front, then folded over & securely hand stitched to the back. There is a 4 sleeve included on the back for hanging with a rod or quilt hangar if you wish. Measures 24 (61cm) square. Original design & one of a kind - you will not see another one just like it! This item is ready to ship. Each quilt I make goes through an involved process. I start by making the pattern, which is first hand drawn by me, then needle punched & transferred onto the background. Then I make the inset pieces using fusible web backed fabric that has been carefully selected to give the desired illumination & shadow effects. Next I hand cut black fabric to make bias tape, form & iron it, back it with special adhesive& affix it to the design over the insets. Borders, if any, are selected & added. When the top is done, it is sandwiched together with batting & backing & the appliques are then securely stitched with clear monofilament thread. Once that is complete, additional quilting is done as needed. A hanging sleeve is then sewn on, as well as the edge binding, which is finished by hand. Each piece emerges as a unique work of art handmade with love & many hours of work by me. My goal is to make something special that can be enjoyed by the receiver & generations to come. Love the design, but not the right colors? Convo me & together we can design one the way you want it! Looking for more designs??? Check out my SOLD section for other examples of designs I have made. If you cannot wash by hand, use the gentle cycle on your machine. While efforts have been made to pre wash fabrics, colors may still run the first time or two that it is laundered. To keep the dyes from depositing on the item or other items, I recommend using a color catcher sheet if you wash it in a washing machine. If necessary, a warm iron may be used with a clean press cloth over the applique. As this is made from cotton, some shrinkage may occur. Irish Claddagh Celtic Knot Quilt Quilted Wall Hanging Art
