This handmade Story Goddess carries the energy of Persephone, the Greek maiden goddess of nature & the springtime, who goes into the underworld with Hades & becomes responsible for guiding lost souls on their journey. Each year, as she returns to the Earth to reunite with her mother, the harvest goddess, Demeter, she brings the spring. Also called Kore, her silver-tone belt carries a deep red garnet bead & a silver-tone pomegranate charm. The rich red of garnet makes the connection to the classic pomegranate of Persephone's story, representing fertility, prosperity, & abundance as well as the seeds of growth & change. Garnet is a stone of regeneration & energy. It is said to be revitalizing & stabilizing & it brings order to chaos. It is also a protective energy stone, said to provide protection from evil, particularly during travel, as well as protection against nightmares & healing from wounds. I enjoy the feminist interpretation of the Persephone-Demeter story in which rather than an abduction tale, Persephone embarks on her underworld journey of her own free will, setting forth into her own identity & purpose, independent of her mother. in this vision, Persephone represents freedom, delight, & the energy, beauty, & perseverance of youth, as well as the ability to navigate new terrain, to bring comfort to others, & to heal the wounds of the past.
