Coop's 12-legged Spiral carving represents a primitive calendar, the Wheel of the Year conveys the cyclical nature of all things. With the encirclement, Growth & Expansion are put into a relationship with us, life, the Universe, etc. MEANING: Spirals are one of the most ancient & universal symbols found throughout history & across cultures. They are found in nature from the form of a snail's shell to the unfurling bright green fern to the galactic sweep of the cosmos. They represent growth, expansion, new beginnings, & the never-ending cycle of life. On a spiritual level, spirals represent our journey through life - from birth to death & back again. We have had energy workers tell us about their experiences with seeing the energy vortex from our Wheel Spiral carving flow through them! This design brings movement to your room. Whether it is a reminder of the ebb & flow of changes in life or a tool to energize your space, it will be a lovely addition to a home, meditation area, or healer's office. SIZE: Based on a 10.5 to 11 inch circle. THE CARVING: Our carvings are single pieces of western red cedar, designed & carved to be wall hangings. Each carving begins as a 1 X 12 inch cedar board. While we use power tools (Scroll Saw, Rotary shaft Tool, handheld detail sanders etc.), we use no laser's, CNC machines or computer operated cutting machines. All work is done with our hands & eyes... We cut the 2 dimensional blanks with scroll & jig saws (double-sized custom orders have to be cut with jigsaw). Carving is done with rotary shaft tools & disc grinders. The 80 grit sanding is the final phase of the carving process, removing the nicks & gouges from the carving tools, & finishes the shaping of the weave. The next 2 sandings with 120 then 220 grit finishes the smoothing & polishing. They are finished with Clear Danish Oil to seal the piece, bringing out the grain & the color.
