They are placed on the roof for good luck, bring prosperity, fertility (of crops & livestock), protect & strengthen the families. They are typically given as presents & pretty much every houses you see in southern Peru has one of the decorations on its roof. They originated from Puno, a mountainous region in southeastern Peru. This handcraft is an expression of Peruvian cultural heritage, as well as the Tiahuanaco & Inca cultures.
