To Hounds

I call this piece To Hounds. It is my homage to that most venerable of British traditions: the fox hunt. I made this piece several years ago as can be told by the hand & foot holds. These are testimony to my original derivation of carousel animals. He is the classic English hunter & of course exhibits the dapple grey coloration. His tack is circa 1910. This tableau illustrates my innate sympathy for the quarry. The horse crashes to the left, the hound pack pictured on the base, also dashes madly to the left. All the while, the subject of all this intense action, serenely & imperturbably lays forelegs regally crossed, apparently unconcerned, facing to the right. A wisp of a smile on his face. in fact, my current project amplifies this theme. It is the reverse of this scene. Our fox will be the hero, riding above the base. The scene on the base will feature two nattily dressed huntsmen on their mounts jumping a fence, hounds out front. Hidden within the hedgerow, watching the entire hubbub, will be our sly fox. I will post a progression of images in this shop soon. To Hounds is 37 from muzzle to back hoof, & 23 from base to hind quarters. He rocks on my ball bearing mechanism & of course exhibits my Rocking R brand burned into the underside of the base. To Hounds
