Buffalo Pony - By Commission Installments Gladly Accepted

Buffalo Pony is my tribute to that romanticized image of the Indian pony charging unfettered across the western plains. Our pony is that most iconic of mounts, the pinto. His mane & tail are streaming against its headlong rush, legs straining as he flies over the prairie. He carries only the simplest of tack. A single rawhide thong at the mouth & a buffalo hide saddle blanket. Actually, as the Indian was a superb horseman, he guided his pony into the mist of the thundering bison herds using only his knees. Both hands were needed in the use of his bow & arrows. Our pinto rocks above another Native American icon, the Tee Pee. It is modeled as true to form, substituting canvas for buffalo hide, as I could manage. Smoke flaps (whose angle was adjusted in accordance with wind direction) insured a smoke free environment. Brightly colored streamers hang from lengthy lodge poles. The Bison totem completes the picture. The many colored base is evocative of the importance of color in the rich craft tradition. The tawny ochre below the Tee Pee represents the prairie grass. An image by that early American chronicler of the west, George Catlin, can be seen on the base. That image? What else but an Indian on his buffalo pony (pinto, of course) shooting his arrow at a thundering bison. Buffalo Pony stands 27 high & is 38 in length. My Rocking R brand is found on the base underside. Before shipping, a full refurbishing will be preformed. This piece was sold some time ago. If you should desire one, some updates would be due. I no longer include the foot & hand pegs & the bases are somewhat longer. Perhaps a Buffalo Bull would be an option instead of the Tee Pee. We could discuss.
