Humpback Whale Eye Relief Sculpture

Humpback whale relief sculpture. I was recently requested to create a whale sculpture. While I have observed humpbacks on the 'whale watching' California boat tours one can take, I did not feel I knew enough about them to attempt one with much confidence. With a little bit of research, I was impressed by the intelligence in the eyes that these creatures possess. This little piece is about that look. As an aside, I was also listening to Don Mclean's song about Van Gogh, 'starry night' I think it's called. Some of the images in my mind of that iconic painting worked its way into this piece! The result, I think, is a friendly, inquisitive expression. From my sculpt in soft clay, I make a mold. Into this mold , I cast hydrostone plaster to make permanent editions. These editions are then colored by hand . There are hooks on the back to hang this sculpture like a picture . IMPORTANT If you need this piece for outdoor or tile installation, this item is also available in concrete, for that application on my site.
