Ixchel - Protector of the Sacred Waters in ancient Maya tradition, the goddess Ixchel is revered as a guardian of the womb, a healer of the body, & a keeper of the rains that nourish the earth. Her name, derived from Ix meaning woman & Chel meaning rainbow or light, reflects her celestial naturea luminous force bridging heaven & earth. She is the goddess of fertility, midwifery, & medicine. Among her many forms, Ixchel appears as a young woman pouring water from her sacred jar, a symbol of life's unending flow. in others, she is the wise crone with a serpent crown, her skirt marked with bonesbearing the deep knowledge of healing herbs, the moon's rhythms, & ancestral wisdom. She is also depicted cradling a rabbit in her arms, seated upon the crescent moonan image that speaks of fertility, cycles & transformation. As with many goddesses, her power is layered & vastlife-giver, dream-weaver, protector of the sacred waters within & around us, & nurturer of new, growing life. This handcrafted sculpture is an homage to her. Each detailher earrings & bangles gilded in 23-karat gold, the curve of her body, the serenity of her facehas been shaped with reverence.
