Mary Anning (1799 - 1847) was an English fossil collector & paleontologist. She collected specimens from the cliffs along the English Channel & found the first ichthyosaur skeleton, the first pterosaur outside of Germany, & two more complete plesiosaur skeletons. Despite her incredible contributions to the field, she was not allowed to join the Geological Society of London which, at the time, only allowed men. She receive recognition in 2010 (163 years later), when the Royal Society included Mary Anning as one of ten women who greatly influenced the history of science. It is believed that the rhyme She sells seashells by the seashore is attributed to her since she & her family sold fossils from their home to raise money. - This book was made for a celebration of Women Scientists event. You can choose any six letters to celebrate someone important to you. The books are acquired from local libraries so we recycle instead of depleting our natural resources.
