All Miwa Temari products are handmade in Tokyo by an advanced level temari master certified by Japanese Temari Association (). Artist's stamp & signature is pinned to temari. ABOUT TEMARI: [temari] - a hand ball- is an ancient Japanese folk art that originated as a simple toy made from easily obtainable materials such as rice husks, fabric scraps, & leftover threads. Over the centuries, the stitching that held the ball together became more elaborate & beautiful patterns were developed. By the end of the 19th century, temari had become less popular as toys, but they were still made for enjoyment. Today, temari are considered works of art & highly valued gifts.
