Ember Guardian is a one-of-a-kind hand-carved apple wood sculpture transformed by fire a vertical abstract form shaped by hand & finished using the traditional yakisugi technique. This piece was not designed in advance. It emerged slowly cut after cut until the form found its vertical balance. Only then did I introduce fire. The flame deepened the grain, revealed hidden structure, & left subtle marks of heat that no tool could replicate. I don't carve wood. I carve what I feel & the wood responds. The black surface is not painted. Its color comes entirely from fire. The sculpture is smooth to the touch, yet visibly marked by the natural reaction of wood to flame. Small cracks & tonal variations remain intentionally present they are not flaws, but traces of time & material integrity. An opening near the upper form allows light to pass through, changing how the sculpture reads depending on where you stand & how the light moves across it throughout the day. After charring, the surface was sealed with natural matte Osmo wax. It does not stain. It does not shed soot. It is durable & safe for interiors. This is not a decorative object. It is a presence shaped by wood & fire. I never create sketches, & I never repeat my work. Each sculpture is one of a kind & this one will never exist again. Presence in space Ember Guardian stands vertical & grounded minimal, raw, restrained. Its black surface absorbs light softly rather than reflecting it, giving the piece a calm architectural presence that deepens over time. The long shadows it casts throughout the day become part of the sculpture itself. It works naturally in Japandi, minimalist, & contemporary interiors & brings a quiet, almost ceremonial weight to any space it inhabits.
