MEANING: The most basic Triquetra. Simply three arcs; originally it is believed that to the early Celtics, the three arcs represent the three aspects of the ancient Celtic Goddess; Maiden, Mother, & Crone. Later, as Christianity spread, the three arcs were adapted to the Christian Trinity of Father, Son, & Holy Spirit. By encircling the knot, each aspect is placed into a relationship, finding balance as we move from one Divine Energy to the next. SIZE: Coop draws each of these up with a compass & ruler. The full-size carving is based on a 10.5 to 11-inch circle. The miniatures will vary from a 4-inch to 6-inch circle. If you have a size requirement, please let us know when you order. We put an eye screw & string in the miniatures for hanging. This design could be displayed on a small nail without the eye screw. If you prefer no eye screw, let us know, & we'll have to make one for you. THE CARVING: Our carvings are single pieces of western red cedar, designed & carved to be wall hangings. Each carving begins as a 1 X 12-inch cedar board. While we use power tools (Scroll Saw, Rotary shaft Tool, handheld detail sanders, etc.), we use no lasers, CNC machines or computer-operated cutting machines. All work is done with our hands & eyes... We cut the 2-dimensional blanks with scroll & jig saws (double-sized custom orders have to be cut with a jigsaw). Carving is done with rotary shaft tools & disc grinders. The 80-grit sanding is the final phase of the carving process, removing the nicks & gouges from the carving tools, & finishes the shaping of the weave. The next 2 sandings with 120 & then 220 grit finishes the smoothing & polishing. They are finished with Clear Danish Oil to seal the piece, bringing out the grain & the color.
