Length: 18 cm/ 7.1 in Width: 6 cm/ 2.4 in Height: 12 cm/ 4.7 in Weight: 380 g/ 13.4 oz A three-dimensional bird figurine made of resin. Handmade & hand painted. It is an artistic perspective on the educational value of decoration & home ornaments. It displays a genuinely stunning artistic effect. It will give a pleasant artistic touch to your home interior. It blends well into a decorative surrounding of a nature education center or classroom. A perfect gift for a bird-lover, a nature geek or someone who appreciates art, beauty & craftsmanship. It has been made in approximate scale of 1:1, hence it represents a real life size bird figure. However, it is not a pure & simple replica but rather an imitation of the bird serving both artistic & educational purposes. The bird statue is made of mixed resin & talc, using a handmade silicone full mold. It was painted by hand with high quality artistic acrylic paints & fine tip paint brushes. The creation of this superb bird statue is a complex process that consists of five stages, namely: 1. modelling the bird in Plasticine (a brand of modelling clay made from calcium salts, petroleum jelly & aliphatic acids) 2. making a silicone full mold 3. hand casting in mixed resin & talc 4. tooling & polishing 5. painting by hand with acrylic paints. The Waxwing is characterized by soft silky plumage. They have unique red tips to some of the wing feathers where the shafts extend beyond the barbs; in the Bohemian & cedar waxwings, these tips look like sealing wax, & give the group its common name. Calls are high-pitched, buzzing or trilling monosyllables. Waxwings choose nest sites in places with rich supplies of fruit & breed late in the year to take advantage of summer ripening. However, they may start courting as early as the winter. Pairing includes a ritual in which mates pass a fruit or small inedible object back & forth several times until one eats it (if it is a fruit). Waxwings appear in art & have been mentioned in literature, among other by Vladimir Nabokov in one of his works I was the shadow of the waxwing slain/ By the false azure in the windowpane. in the Middle Ages, the waxwing's appearance was an omen of the plague, even the Dutch name for the bird is Pest Vogel, which literally translates into plague bird. in Irish folklore, waxwings are the torchbearers for the spirit banshee which wails to alert a family that a member's death is near. Seeing the waxwing share food with its flock should remind you to share as well - how committed are you to your family & friends & how much do you share with them?
