Cincinnati - 3D Map Carving Wood Carved Terrain With Woodburned Features, Lines & Text

This is a wood carved 3D relief map, much like you might see in the visitor's center of a national park or one of those cheap plastic 3D wall maps, but MUCH cooler! This map is to scale & accurate. It is in the WGS84 Web Mercator projection (think G00GLE Maps), which mostly means that north is directly up. Also, the terrain height has been exaggerated to bring out the landscape in a more noticeable & artistic way. I use a computer-controlled router to carve the terrain & a laser to accurately produce the detail. The text is done by hand with a conventional woodburning tool. If this unique piece finds a place in your home, or a loved one's home I suggest trying out a location which receives oblique lighting such as adjacent to a window or under accent lighting for example. When lit from the side, the subtle shadows & shading really bring out the terrain. All of the wood I use is sustainably harvested Ohio Valley hardwoods from a small local mill. Please understand that there may be some variation in color, grain, etc. from the photo. Wood is a beautiful organic medium & it is these variations that make every piece unique.
