The Spokane River forms the western boundary, with Riverside State Park & Indian Canyon Park, as well as the many golf courses along the river. From a military fort to a trading & transport center during mining rushes, Spokane boomed in the late 1800s / early 1900s & now is known for its setting within beautiful landscapes & interesting topography, a National Register-recognized collection of architecture from the late 1800 / 1900s, such as the mansions of Browne's Addition, the Northwest Museum of Fine Arts & the home of Gonzaga University.
