Talistone Tortoise

Our engraved River Stones vary in sizes from size from approximately 1 to 2 inches. We use naturally tumbled, polished stones with colors ranging from whites, browns, tans, dark reddish & brown grays. The stones are sandblasted & the imagery is then painted black. Size, shape, color & will vary with each stone. Turtles play positive roles in the folklore of many Native American tribes. in the lore of many Native American creation myths, the Great Spirit created their homeland by placing earth on the back of a giant turtle, which is why certain contemporary Native Americans refer to North America as Turtle Island. To some, turtles represent longevity, protection, & fertility. & to others, a birth ritual involved sewing a newborn girl's umbilical cord into a figure & into the shape of a turtle to ensure health & safety. Turtles overall can represent Earth & are often associated with healing, wisdom, & spirituality. Talistone Tortoise
