Hand Carved Wood Idol, Cucuteni Female Figurine, Primitive Sculpture

This handcarved wooden sculpture is based on one the well-known figurines from Cucuteni-Trypillia culture (see the last picture). It extended from the Carpathian Mountains to the Dniester & Dnieper regions, centred on modern-day Moldova & covering substantial parts of western Ukraine & northeastern Romania, encompassing an area of 350,000 km2 (140,000 sq mi), with a diameter of 500 km (300 mi; roughly from Kyiv in the northeast to Braov in the southwest). These people built large cities, engaged in agriculture & had very developed crafts. The largest cities were built on the territory of Ukraine with a population of 15,000. Crockery & other ceramic products, as the anthropomorphic figurines they made, are very diverse, perfect & beautiful. Researchers believe that women in their society were very important, so there are a lot of female images in the figures. Obviously, these figures were used in religious cults. in 1981, more than 20 ceramic human figurines reclining on chairs & bearing elaborate incised decorations were unearthed in northeastern Romania. They, & many other figurines like themsuch as the one that we usedwere made by a people we know today as the Cucuteni culture, which lasted from 4800 to 3000 B.C. in what is now Romania & Ukraine.
