He is considered one of the most important German dramatists, poets & essayists. With his theatrical debut, the drama Die Ruber, which premiered in 1782, & which he already wrote as a student of the Military Academy, Schiller made a significant contribution to world literature. Because of the performances of his first work, he came into conflict with the Wrttemberg sovereign, so he eventually fled to several intermediate stations to Thuringia. There he met Goethe whose friendship inspired him immensely. Many of his plays belong to the standard repertoire of German-speaking theaters. Schiller's ballads are among the most famous German poems.
