"Abstract Wood Sculpture - Original, Modern, Freestanding, Curvilinear ""Eternal Movement No.1"

After days of exploration on paper Eternal Movement No.1 presented itself. The form bends backwards in a folding motion yet preserves its seemingly inherent internal tension, all of which contributes to its mysterious sense of physicality. I have been inspired recently by contemplating spacehow it is seen in a relative way & also metaphysically. The questions arise: Is there a movement which is not of time & space? Is silent observation & awareness the gateway into this other field of energy? We are in the land of yellow cedar here in the Pacific North West. Much of the industry is for exporting this wood, but nonetheless it can be found, albeit not so easily, so when I gain access to it I am very pleased. Carving this piece was a journey of focus & challenges. It started with choosing the portions of stock for all the different layers, flattening & gluing them together to form the block. The beauty of carving this material continues to reveal itself to me more & more as I work with it. By learning the character of the wood & working with it respectfully, this form was able to be made. Eternal Movement No.1 is an invitation for contemplation of the forces beyond our common everyday experiences. It questions our concepts of time, space & motion. It is signed on the bottom with a pyrograph tool, including the year & comes with a booklet with a printed description, artist statement, this poem & other relevant information.
