Chippewa (Ojibway) inspired Manitou Sculpture or Totem. Hand carved & assembled from local Basswood, Butternut, hand painted, fur, leather, beads, feathers, etc. The Ojibway believe every animal has his or her own individual gifts & unique talents & powers. Animals were chosen as personal totems (or discovered through vision) by one who hoped to gain that animals' special abilities through emulating its behaviors & characteristics. Animals have the ability to sense changes of the world, seasonal changes, & the coming of things. Man does not have this foreknowledge. Approximately 22 inches tall. The Spirit Bear is actually a sub-species of the Black Bear & has white fur due to a rare genetic trait. It is found mainly along the coast of British Columbia but has been spotted as far east as Minnesota.
