Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (15 July 1606 - 4 October 1669) was a Dutch painter & etcher. He is generally considered one of the greatest painters & printmakers in European art & the most important in Dutch history. This sculpture is based on a bust of Rembrandt by Simon Mansion which was commissioned in 1818 for the decoration of the Great Gallery of the Louvre, 1819. It remains at the Louvre today.
