The cartographer John Wood was the most significant surveyor of the early 19th century. He published the 'Town Atlas of Scotland' around 1883 which contained 50 or so maps & town plans including this one. His work is incredibly intricate; a great resource for historians & those interested in Scottish Genealogy allowing researchers to pick out tiny details, names & buildings from townscapes over 200 years old.
