Autumn. This Stoneware Bird Feeder has been made by the Sheppard brother's in a little enterprise we began in the first Lockdown in 2020. We are brothers aged 18 & 15, with the help of our father we have created an original teardrop shape & made a slip casting mould around it. We then fill the mould with liquid clay (slip) & add a special metal hook. It is then fired & then we add various combinations of glazes & fire again to 1220c. The glaze moves & blends in the kiln, making each one unique & slightly different to the photos you can see online. They Measure 25cm in height & 13cm in width. With an 8cm diameter opening (large hole), 5cm diameter (small hole). Because they are made from high temperature, stoneware clay, they are durable enough to withstand harsh weather, unlike lower temperature clays.
