Description: - This classic piece was produced by John Speed the best known mapmaker of the Stuart period. It is a wonderful example of a decorative county map that was produced over 400 years since. This is an antique reproduction of the original hand coloured map & therefore each original map is in itself unique. The wonderful, picturesque county of Suffolk is captured in superb detail in this captivating piece, one of Speede's finest. Boundaries are shown of the Suffolk Hundreds which land was divided to back in the seventeenth century. This piece includes a wonderfully coloured illustration of Boudica the fiercely brave warrior queen of the British Celtic Iceni tribe who led an uprising against the occupying Roman forces in 60AD. Also depicted is Petillius Cerialis the routed Roman commander who attempted to win back the besieged settlement of Camulodunum (modern Colchester) from Boudica. A classic work that creates a centrepiece for any home & would look stunning framed. This print is produced on premium heavyweight 230 gsm paper & uses the finest quality inks that will not fade or smudge. This map has been digitally cleaned to remove most of the marks & signs of ageing though it is faded in a few small places but is a strong print overall as represented by the images.
