A handmade reproduction of Matthus Merian's engraving, Ezekiel's vision (1670). Based on the verses in Ezekiel & accompanying commentaries, the prophet saw a chariot comprising of numerous heavenly beings propelled by the Likeness of a Man. The framework of the chariot comprised four beings referred to as the living creatures (in Hebrew, hayyot or khayyot), which had bodies that resembled those of human beings but with four faces corresponding to the four cardinal directions (East, South, North, & West). These faces were those of a man, a lion, an ox (later changed to a cherub in Ezekiel 10:14), & an eagle, giving a total of sixteen faces since each of the four angels has four faces. Additionally, each of the hayyot angels has four wings, with two of them stretching across the length of the chariot & connecting with the wings of the angel on the opposite side, forming a 'box' of wings that makes up the perimeter of the chariot. The remaining two wings of each angel cover its body. Below the feet of the hayyot angels, there are other angels resembling wheels, which are not attached to the chariot but are located nearby & around its perimeter. These wheel angels, referred to as ophanim (meaning wheels, cycles or ways), are described as a wheel inside of a wheel. The angel with the face of a man is always on the east side, gazing up at the Likeness of a Man who drives the chariot. The Likeness of a Man sits on a throne made of sapphire. The Bible later references a third type of angel known as seraphim (burning in Hebrew). These angels manifest as flashes of fire that continuously ascend & descend, & they power the movement of the chariot. in terms of hierarchy, the hayyot angels are the highest, being closest to God, followed by the ophanim, & then the seraphim. The chariot is always in motion, & the energy driving this movement operates based on this hierarchy. The ophanim are controlled by the Living creatures or Hayyot, & the hayyot are controlled by the seraphim. Ultimately, the movement of all the angels within the chariot is governed by the Likeness of a Man on the Throne. 57 canvas in a standing / hanging frame Ezekiel's Vision - Matthus Merian, 1670 Handmade Reproduction On Canvas Biblical Esoteric 5x7
