The brief was to create something that felt as though it belonged to the place: a chair that carried the weight of the castle's history, carved with the detail & intention that medieval craftspeople put into the stonework above it. The backrest is filled with Celtic knotwork & the figures of ancient guardians & historical characters from Welsh & Norman history, hand-carved from solid oak with the patience a commission like this demands. Visitors who encounter it at the castle stop in front of it. Children sit in it & immediately become someone from a different century.
