Handmade & individually dyed by us in Northern Thailand, this black bamboo pendant light transforms a traditional Thai fishing basket into a dramatic piece of contemporary lighting. Each shade is woven by hand from natural bamboo before being dyed to create its deep black finish. The open geometric weave allows light to pass through the basket, creating warm patterns & a striking contrast against the dark bamboo. The black finish gives this traditional woven form a more contemporary character, working particularly well in modern, industrial, bohemian & minimalist interiors. Hang one as a statement pendant, use a pair over a kitchen island or dining table, or combine several sizes & shapes to create a larger lighting installation. The basket is also flexible. Its natural form is a long organic shape, but it can be gently compressed & reshaped into a wider, rounded lamp. A supplied internal string or cord can then be used to hold your chosen shape. TRADITIONAL THAI CRAFT The inspiration for this lamp comes from traditional bamboo fishing traps found throughout Thailand & Southeast Asia. These ingenious baskets have been woven from strips of natural bamboo for generations, creating a lightweight & flexible structure without requiring a conventional rigid frame. We make each shade by hand in Northern Thailand, adapting this traditional basket form into contemporary lighting before individually dyeing the bamboo to create its distinctive dark finish. Every piece is handmade & dyed individually, so subtle variations in the bamboo, weave & color make each lamp unique. SIZES As every basket is handmade, measurements may vary slightly. Because both the basket & coloring are handmade, small differences in shade, color intensity, weave, dimensions & shape are a natural part of the process rather than imperfections. The basket may be flattened for shipping. Its flexible construction allows it to be easily expanded & gently worked into your preferred shape when it arrives.
