What is Cast Paper? Cast Paper is a handmade paper that is molded to create dimension. The process I use is self-developed & unique. Step 1 - I carve an original out of wax. This can take a very long time depending on the size of the piece. Step 2 - I make a rubber mold from the original carving. Multiple castings can be made from a mold. Step 3 - We take 100% cotton fiber & grind it with water to a workable pulp. This pulp is worked & pressed into the mold. Step 4 - The casting is dried, trimmed, & checked for imperfections. Not all casting makes it past this step. Step 5 - The dried castings are hand-painted with high-quality acrylic pigments. This is where I spend most of my time. Step 6 - Each casting is beautifully mounted for display. What are my matting & framing options? Mat Options. This work of art is mounted for display on an acid-free mat board with a top mat & a liner mat. A hidden foam spacer is between the mats & back to create depth for the artwork.
