In the weaving world, the term Boundweave means that all the warp threads, (the lengthwise threads) are covered or bound by the weft (the crosswise threads that interlace with the warp). Because it is weft-faced, this structure is well suited for sturdy rugs which are highly decorative. Four threads woven on different sheds create one row of weaving. Pattern is made by the placement of color. I design each rug on graph paper using colored pencils before I weave. There are computer programs available, however I still like the feel of pencils in my hand, & filling in squares on the paper. in this way I really become familiar with the the pattern motifs & colors. For Boundweave, I must have some contrast in order for the pattern to show. Because Rosepath is threaded on a pointed draw, it is possible to weave flame & diamond motifs. When designing, I need to be mindful of color placement. I must question how the colors next to each other will contrast. The motifs will fade away or become very subtle if the colors next to each other are the same color value. Contrasts must be kept in balance.
