The shores of Michigan's lower peninsula are loaded with some of the most beautiful rocks & beach pebbles you'll ever see! The variety of colours, shapes, sizes, textures & patterns is amazing. From granite in a whole rainbow of colours, to quartz, kona dolomite, & intricate fossils, (like our beloved petoskey stone) the diversity is truly inspiring. As a rock-lover, I spend many days at the beach, combing the shores for beautiful stones. I wash & sort them, & then use them to create maps, pictures, jewelry & mementos, which honor our wonderful lakes & our land's natural resources & history. Each map I make is created individually with whatever stones I have on hand from my most recent beach trips. I find & collect all of my stones myself. (I never buy any of them from other collectors or third party sellers!) Each map is different, because no two stones are the same, & each year brings varying amounts of different types of stones to the shore, so each one is assembled based on what I have in my collection at the time. However, I always put my maps together with an eye for as much variety as possible, working to ensure that each map contains quartz, granite, limestone, fossils (honeycomb, chain, colonized), sandstone, septarian nodules, leeland blue, unakite, & whatever other beautiful stones wash up on the beach. & I ALWAYS put a petoskey stone in every one of my Michigan maps. This Michigan Mitten map was made using beach pebbles I collected from Lake Michigan & Lake Huron. (I live in the lower half of the lower peninsula, so getting up to the U.P. happens less often than I would like). The map is made using industrial-strength adhesive, so that the rocks are securely attached to the baseboard. They're also sealed with a high-gloss sealant to protect them & bring out their natural colours & patterns. This map of the Mitten is 16 x 20, with a white mat & base, & a wooden frame in a beautiful shade of aged grey, like driftwood, which offsets the gorgeous tones of the rocks. The shipping for this item is free within the continental US. If you are interested in purchasing this piece, but do not live in the continental Unites States, please contact me first so that we can work out a shipping cost that works for both of us.
