This is a quirky, stylised fish wall hanging made from Devon driftwood, using an openwork technique, by artist Neil Hampson. I collect the driftwood from the beaches of Sidmouth, Devon where I live. I then wash it, & let it dry naturally. The driftwood is glued into place, & I build it up in layers to produce an intricate latticework effect. The wood has been given a few coats of spray varnish to protect, & bring out the natural colour of the wood. I have then hand finished this with yacht varnish, to give a rich, glossy appearance. This is signed & dated on the back by the artist, using an engraver. The piece is strung on the back, so ready to hang. Each sculpture I make is unique, & you will receive the item that is pictured. This is a larger sized work of mine, measuring 57cm ( 22 1/2 in.) wide, & 38cm ( 15 in.) high. The depth is 4.5cm ( 1 3/4 in.)
