They work best when not fully submerged or left to sit in standing water for extended periods of time. We also strongly advise that you only use hand soap & use these jars for hand-washing, rather than dish washing. Dish washing soaps tend to be chemically stronger & may affect the rusty lid finish eventually. Furthermore, dish washing tends to, by its very nature, cause splashing & standing water to run all over your jar - doing this repeatedly over long periods of time, may make your jar wet - which would require it to be set aside to dry out.
