Cyanotype technique was used widely to produce architectural & engineering blueprints before the computer drafting & printing technology took off. Making a cyanotype print requires many steps. First, the watercolor paper was to be coated with a layer of sensitizer & set dry. Then a negative film was laid on top of the paper & exposed to bright sunlight or UV light source. The exposed paper was then rinsed with water & dried. This is a very analog technique for printing, & the result is slightly different each time, which makes each print unique with a special charm & warmth. Please avoid direct sunlight on the print when displaying the cyanotype. in contrast to most historical & present-day processes, cyanotype prints do not react well to basic environments. As a result, it is not advised to store or present the print to a chemically buffered museum board, as this makes the image fade. Another unusual characteristic of the cyanotype is its regenerative behavior: prints that have faded due to prolonged exposure to light can often be significantly restored to their original tone by simply temporarily storing them in a dark environment.
