Size: 89x35 cm (35x13.5 inch) Cotton100 percent, made in Japan All the edges of the hankerchief are stitched, Tenugui is Lit. Hand towel in Japanese - has been used in Japan for a long time. During the Heian period (794-1192 AD) it was used as accessories in rituals at Shinto shrines. The tenugui started to grow in popularity from the Kamakura period (1192-1333 AD) & during the Edo period (1592-1868 AD), as cotton cultivation started in several parts of Japan , tenugui became an everyday necessary item. At this time the tenugui was regarded as a versatile daily product, but slowly it began to be regarded as an artistic item & contest were held to select winning designs. These contests were called Tenugui Awase & contributed to the development of new dyeing techniques. TODAY TENUGUI IS USED FOR A LARGE VARIETY OF PURPOSES! Hand-wash recommended. Dry in shade. Don't bleach. Wash with like colors. Don't leave in water. Colors may fall. Both edges of tenugui are not stitched, so the strings of both edges will become loose & fraying. However, the fraying will stops after using a while.
