It was thought that receiving the evil eye could bring bad luck & misfortune, therefore eye-like symbols were used to ward off the bad energy, so to speak. in Greece today eye-like symbols are given to new-borns for good luck & protection & adults wear bracelets & necklaces with these symbols or hang eye-like decorations in their home. Keeping in mind the history of the eye symbol, I often include eye symbols in my cut-out designs. As children we would cut out & paste various paper shapes to create pictures. The great artist Matisse, in his later years, created his exquisite paper cutout masterpieces. I use a similar method to make my wall hangings. Pieces of fabric are first carefully cut out, then joined to other pieces. I then paste & machine sew to create my various designs. Each wall hanging has between 10-25 pieces & often includes symbols of good luck & harmony, for example: coins, eye symbols, pomegranates. I use only high quality fabrics & my wall hangings are fully lined with a sleeve in back to support a rod for hanging.
