This is a ONE OF A KIND piece. This cushion cover was cut from an antique Transylvanian cuvertur a handwoven blanket made on a traditional wooden loom sometime in the 1930s. The pattern a traditional overshot geometric in indigo blue on natural cream was not chosen from a catalogue. It was passed down. Memorised. Woven from memory. We rescued it. We made it into something you can live with every day. WHY THIS PIECE IS DIFFERENT Overshot is one of the oldest & most technically demanding weave structures in folk textile tradition. On a 4-shaft loom, the weaver creates a secondary pattern layer a floating weft that forms the geometric motif over a plain cotton ground. No two pieces come out identical. The repeat depends on the weaver's rhythm, the tension of the warp, the weight of the shuttle. This specific pattern deep indigo blue, bold interlocking geometry was documented in Transylvania in the decades between the two world wars. It is not decorative in the modern sense. It was structural, symbolic, generational. A cuvertur like this took weeks to complete & was kept for generations. The boldness of the indigo against the natural cream ground gives this piece a graphic quality that reads as completely contemporary while carrying nearly a century of history in its structure. This is wabi-sabi in its most resolved form: a textile that was built to last, that has lasted & that asks nothing more than to continue.
