They were stories written using rhyming prose & the Maqamaat of Hariri written in the 11th century by Hariri of al-Basra feature a collection of stories revolving around the character of Abu Zayd who wanders from town to town speaking to groups of powerful people while tricking them & pranking them along the way. All the stories are filled with humor & comedy. These stories were vividly narrated & in the scene above, Abu Zayd meets with Harith at the public library of Hulwan in medieval Baghdad. This story was illustrated in a 13th century copy of this manuscript. We have aimed to transfer that medieval illustration, which is very colorful, to this woodburned wall or shelf art piece. It is truly a one of a kind piece of history perfect for any home, nursery, or office.
