Persephone, otherwise known as the 'Queen of the Underworld' is the Greek goddess of fertility & spring & maidenhood. Daughter of Zeus & Demeter, she was kidnapped by Hades & taken to the Underworld to be his bride. When Demeter learned that Zeus has conspired on her daughter's abduction she was furious, & refused to let the earth fruit until Persephone was returned. Unfortunately Persephone had already eaten the pomegranate seeds which tied herself to Hadesthe pomegranate being a symbol of the indissolubility of marriage. It was eventually decided Persephone would spend 6 months of the year in the underworld (when we experience the colder seasons) & 6 months above (when the earth blooms). Persephone is usually depicted as a young goddess holding sheafs of grain & a flaming torch. She is described as mystical, visionary & often possessing spirit guides. Persephone's Fruit is strong, powerful & fruity, the perfect scent to describe our namesake deity. Top notes of juicy pomegranate & fresh roses all coming to rest on a musky base of amber, vanilla & spices.
