John concentrates his talent on the many different & fascinating native fauna that inhabit the vast Australian Continent. His fascination in the Native Bird population especially dominates his wide variety of works that he has painted prolifically over the past six years. John has based himself in the wonderful surrounds of Cairns in Far North Queensland. Cairns is world renowned for its' lush natural rainforest & the magical delights of the Great Barrier Reef, both of which enjoy world heritage status & protection. Living in the rainforest & been surrounded by such beauty inspires him to paint daily. WHAT'S SO SPECIAL ABOUT HIS ART? John paints his art directly onto the surface of specially prepared paperbark collected (under permit) from the Melaleuca Tree species. When his painting has been completed, he then adds REAL AUSTRALIAN NATIVE BIRD FEATHERS to his ORIGINAL PAINTINGS subtly to his works. Also available for sale great works, you will notice that the feather that was on the original work appears in the print itself John achieves a true 3 dimensional painting of the subject. FEATHERS UNDER GOVERNMENT LICENCE! John possessed a special & nique licence which, by law, allows him to collect feathers, within guidelines stipulated by the Australian Government. John stresses that NO TREE NOR BIRD ARE EVER HARMED to accomplish his work. It took many years to negotiate with the Federal & State Government bodies for this licence. A primary function is too stop unscrupulous people from killing our native flora & fauna for commercial gain. Any protection for our native flora & fauna from the Government I support whole heartedly & applaud. ABOUT THE BARK The paperbark he uses is soft & each piece is varied in texture, fibre & grain. When the bark is treated & preserved, using a technique that John devised, the surface becomes ready to paint on. WHAT PAINT DOES HE USE? He uses primarily water-colour paint applied thin layer upon thin layer until he has built the colour up to his satisfaction. He does not believe in the traditional wishy-washyopaque technique that most water-colourists use. THE FINAL PRODUCT When John
