Wire Dancer One - This painting is the original Wire People painting that initiated the entire series. At the time I was searching to drastically simplify imagery without losing visual energy. But how? I doodled pencil on a pad every day for weeks, hours at a time. Gradually a vague understanding appeared. I pushed on drawing, & came to know how an extremely simplified imagery could also make viable, energized art. I then took up canvas & painted, slinging strongly expressive colors heedless of any imagery by immediately painting over any that appeared. Gradually I came to realize the simplest means to the end I wanted, yet nothing exactly like the final expression was visible yet. Again I engaged with disparate color forms that would have to radiate the energy & in effect, pull the painting all together. Though this sounds too pat, nevertheless it's true that suddenly it was all there - like many of the other magical times that happen in painting - the forms & the how were suddenly there. I immediately began defining the colors I wanted in the forms & in the background, & simply went at it- At last, there it was, finally, in all its alive, free-form joy - Wire Dancer One. The ORIGINAL PAINTING is for sale as well as artist's prints. The original is acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas.
