The Stag Storytelling Chair is a hand-carved solid oak throne featuring a proud stag head & sweeping antlers as the centrepiece of the backrest a chair that brings calm, focus & a sense of the natural world into any storytelling space. Originally commissioned by Belmont Community Primary School in Lincolnshire to reflect their school emblem, the Stag Chair has since found homes in outdoor classrooms, reading gardens, library corners & school playgrounds across the UK. There is something about the antlers & the stillness of the carving that quiets a room children sit up straighter & lean in closer when the chair is at the front. The finish keeps the carved detail crisp & the timber protected through all weather, without losing the natural warmth of the wood. The stag can also be changed to a different animal entirely if you have something specific in mind: we have made versions with red kites, hedgehogs, barn owls & highland cattle for different schools. Typical lead time is 4-5 weeks, though we can rearrange the workshop schedule to hit a tight deadline retirement dates, end of term, anniversaries. Prices include VAT. Schools can order by purchase order & pay on invoice. If your council or trust has a supplier registration process, we will provide everything needed: VAT number, bank details, UTR & address. Finish This piece is supplied unvarnished as standard. Left natural, solid oak slowly weathers to a soft, silvery-grey completely normal for outdoor timber, a graceful way for a piece to age, & with no maintenance needed. If you'd prefer to bring out the grain & warm, honeyed tones, choose the varnished option 50) & we'll hand-apply three coats of Epifanes, a premium marine yacht varnish. More about the two finishes Outdoor furniture takes a real beating from sun & weather. Left natural, an unvarnished piece simply silvers over time & asks nothing of you. A varnished piece keeps its rich sheen for a couple of years; after that the varnish may begin to flake or patch, at which point you can simply re-coat it, or let it weather back to that natural silvery-grey.
