Hand block printed by hereditary artisans from Jaipur, India. - We strictly adhere to traditional artisanal methods that not only achieve a high quality product but also help preserve an ancient craft that is at risk of extinction. - Our artisanal methods are neither quick nor cheap. However, they are fun & wonderful for the environment. For example, no man made energy / electricity was consumed in the printing, curing or washing processes. They were printed by hand & 'sun cured' in the time honoured way - days under the blistering Rajasthan desert sun rather than for a few minutes in electric devices. About Hand Block Printing: An ancient technique used since at least the 5th century. Intricately carved wood blocks, dipped in pigment colours are expertly pressed on the fabric. Each separate colour in the print requires its own block. Every step of the process including hand carving the blocks, mixing pigments to achieve the desired colour & stamping the fabric requires artistry, skill & patience.
